His Holiness the Dalai Lama Concerned about Sikkim Earthquake

In a letter offering his condolences to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his concern for the devastation caused by the recent earthquake in the state.

“I was saddened to learn about the loss of life and damage to property that the recent earthquake has caused across isolated Himalayan regions, particularly in Sikkim. I offer my sympathy and condolences to all those families, who have been directly affected by what I understand is one of the worst earthquakes in recent memory,” His Holiness said in his letter dated 20th September 2011. 
His Holiness offered his prayers for those affected by this tragic natural calamity and also donated Rs. 500,000 from the Dalai Lama Trust towards relief work in the affected areas of the state.

ROAD SAFETY- BE RESPONSIBLE

         With the increase in number of vehicles and road accidents in the recent years, the Motor vehicle Department and Sikkim Traffic Police has has come up with various Acts and policies to prevent more accidents in the state.  Recently, Road Safety Week was observed jointly by Sikkim traffic Police and  Motor vehicle Department in order to bring awareness among the general public of the State.          When we look in our State only, according to survey, 75% of accidents are caused due to the negligence of driver. But on the other hand, drivers of Sikkim are much more aware of traffic rules as compared to other states in India. Sikkim Traffic Police, in order to bring awareness among the students has come up with a policy of forming a Road Safety Patrol consisting of 20-30 member students from  each school.
