Sikkim–Darjeeling should be unified : SDUF

“It is the time to understand the issue of Sikkim-Darjeeling unification because without the help of Sikkimese or Sikkim it is impossible to achieve Gorkhaland” said General Secretary of Sikkim- Darjeeling Unification Forum Mr. Shankar Hang Subba in a press conference held today here in the Capital.

Adding more Mr. Subba appealed to the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to take initiative and play a vital role in the unification issue. Mr. Subba stated that Gorkhaland is impossible but through unification the problems of Darjeeling people would be solved. The forum has been raising the voice about the restoration of lost territory since day one of its inception but due to technical errors and other reason forum failed to convince the people of Sikkim regarding the unification issue but hopes that a day will come when every people in the hills will understand the unification issue and raise their voice in support of this demand.

Mr. Subba alleged that Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has deceived the Gorkha community of the hills but still the people of Darjeeling hills believe in political parties’ vague promises. “We want separation from West Bengal state through Sikkim-Darjeeling unification which is easier to achieve than Gorkhaland” asserted Mr. Subba. He added that “Bengal government will never pass the Gorkhaland resolution in Bengal Assembly so that we need to demand for Sikkim-Darjeeling unification for the future security and development of the hill people”.

Mr. Subba mentioned that they have no plans of forming the said organization in Sikkim as it is impossible, do not want to interfere in Sikkim’s politics and never will raise the voice against the Sikkim Government.

West Bengal government had already issued a white paper claiming Darjeeling not to be the part of Bengal and Forum do not demand but claims Darjeeling to be the part of the Sikkim and added that the unification of Darjeeling and Sikkim is possible if the Sikkim Governments shows interest upon the issue informed Mr. Subba.
