THE GRAND ART MELA : A COMPETITION FOR A CAUSE
By Kesang Tamang: "The grand Art Mela", an art
competition was organized by Interact Club of Palzor Namgyal Girls School
Sponsored by Rotary Club of Gangtok (South) on 24th of July 2011 at Star Hall,
M.G Marg. A total of 125 participants from different school at Gangtok and also
peoples from different walk of society participated in the competition for a
cause. The entire competition was divided into 4 categories:
Category 1 for children of 3 to
6 years of age.
Category 2 for children of 7 to 14 years of age.
Category 3 for 15 to 18 years
of age and
Category 4 for people of 19 years and above (open
category).
The competition was judged by
Mr. Yabesh B. Rai, Priyanka Chettri, Ashwin Oberoi & Diwakar Lamichaney
expect for the one in which he (Diwakar Lamichaney) himself was competing.
Astha Lamichaney and Arithant
Chettri stood 1st and 2nd respectively for the Category 1
(3-6).
Tshering Namgyal Bhutia and
Gyatso Topgay stood 1st and 2nd in the Category 2
1 (7-14)
Avni
Lakhotia of was adjudged as the winner for the Category 3 (15-18)
and Diwaker Lamichaney was
adjudged as the winner for the Category 4 Open Competition. (19 and Above).
“We have decided to auction the winning painting and the
money collected from the auction will be handed over to Rotary Club for Polio
Eradication Program of Rotary International” briefed Interactor and President,
Interact Club of Palzor Namgyal Girls School, Miss.Priyanka Sharma.
Stressing on the aims and objectives of the club, which lays as follows,
(i) Developing leadership skills and personal integrity;
(ii) Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others;
(iii)Understanding the value of individual;
(iv) Responsibility and hard work;
(v) Advancing international understanding and goodwill,

Rotarian and Chairman, Interact Club & Rotary Club of Gangtok, (South) Mr. Prakash Sundas told that such
kind of activities will help the students in exposing their hidden talents and will also give them an opportunity to acquire many things in
their days ahead to come.
Lastly
the Club thanked Urban Development & Housing Department, Government of
Sikkim for granting permission to use the space at Star Hall , Sikkim
Police, Members from Press & Media, Rotary Club of Gangtok, Rotary Club of
Gangtok (South) and all the participants for their presence and support.
