G.T. EXAM: FINALLY HELD
Written Examination for the post
of Graduate Teachers (Arts, Science, Math) which was to be conducted by Sikkim
Public Service Commission (SPSC) was held on 26th February 2011
after a much long controversy over the past month. One may note that the exam for
same was to be held on 15, 16, 17 & 18 of February and the Admit Card for
the same was to be issued from 3rd to 12th February. But
in the mean time SPSC came up with the notification that only those candidates
attaining 45% and above will be allowed to sit for the examination and the same
was not mentioned during the time of advertisement. Around 3,000 candidates
applied for the post of 298 Graduate Teachers. This statement by SPSC heated
the situation and various Associations, Organizations and Individuals protested
against the decision of SPSC, which led exam to halt. After facing criticisms
after criticisms on its improper functioning, SPSC relaxed the percentage (%)
criteria upto 40%.
Strict
guidelines were given by SPSC to the invigilators at all the centre for smooth
functioning of the examination. “At least even after controversies, G.T. exam
is held peacefully and fairly, and was not like that of RS & ARS, for which
we are satisfied”, says one candidate. “But still for 2nd day of
exam, we have to appear at two different venues. 1st paper which
starts from 10 in the morning is to take place at Sikkim Government College,
Tadong and 2nd paper starting from 2: 00 P.M. has been kept at
Modern School, Tathangchen. Within this two hours break we have to rush from
one venue to another. What if some problem arises, like traffic and we are not
able to reach our centre on time? “ complains one candidate.
Though the exams has been
conducted successfully, people are waiting how soon the results will be
declared and qualified candidates will be posted to different schools where
there is lack of teachers as the session 2011 has already started.
