ROAD SAFETY- BE RESPONSIBLE

With the increase in number of vehicles and road accidents in the recent years, the Motor vehicle Department and Sikkim Traffic Police has has come up with various Acts and policies to prevent more accidents in the state.  Recently, Road Safety Week was observed jointly by Sikkim traffic Police and  Motor vehicle Department in order to bring awareness among the general public of the State.
When we look in our State only, according to survey, 75% of accidents are caused due to the negligence of driver. But on the other hand, drivers of Sikkim are much more aware of traffic rules as compared to other states in India. Sikkim Traffic Police, in order to bring awareness among the students has come up with a policy of forming a Road Safety Patrol consisting of 20-30 member students from  each school. This kind of policies can check the smooth functioning of traffic near school areas. The initiative taken out by the Sikkim Traffic Police can be considered to be a very applausible one and is delivering a strong message that every individual or citizen, be it motorist, non-motorist or pedestrian should be responsible and concern for their own safety.
As per the Motor Vehicle Act adopted by Ministry of Road and Transport department, any one caught using mobile phone, their driving license will be cancelled. Apart  from this, drunk driving, reckless driving, over speed has also led to many road mishaps in the past few years.  Every individual has been given power to complain if any one breaks the law. Traffic Police even assures that if done so, the identity of the person lodging complain will be kept confidential.
But inspite of this, Sikkim Traffic Police has been doing commendable job on the smooth functioning of the traffic. It is not only the duty of police, rather it is duty of every individual to come forward and help themselves in their own safety. I urge all the citizens to come forward and take a responsible step towards the safety of every one.
We being the COMMON PEOPLE, we should raise a COMMON VOICE,"BE RESPONSIBLE".
