DAD KILLS 8-YR-OLD DAUGHTER AFTER FAILED RAPE ATTEMPT

Palwal, Feb 24 (PTI)   A man was arrested for allegedly killing his eight-year-old daughter after she resisted his attempt to rape her in the district here, police said. The victim, a student of class three, had gone missing since November 28 last year and a report had been filed with the police in the connection, they said. The police yesterday recovered a decomposed body of a girl near a railway crossing here, which was later identified by the victim's mother. The father of the girl first tried to rape her and later strangulated the minor to death when she resisted him and then dumped her body near a tree, they said. Victim's mother alleged that her daughter was last seen with her father near a railway track before she went missing. He had been sexually harassing the girl for a long time, she alleged .

INTER HOUSE QUIZ COMPETITION ON "CENSUS"

West Point Sr. Sec. School organized an Inter House Quiz Competition  based on the theme "Census" on 24th Feb 2011 in the school premises for the students of class VI, VII &VIII. The entire quiz competition was divided into three section viz Buzzer round, Rapid fire round and Pass Pass round.The four participating house were Gyaltchen (Blue), Pema (Red), Khorlo (Yelloow) and Dug House (Green). Census cap Making a lead since the first round the Gyaltchen house emerged as winner with 100 points, Pema and Dug with 80 points each securing 2nd position and Khorlo palced 3rd with70 points on the board.All the participants were awarded with certificates. Students giving correct answer were also awarded with a Census design  cap. Neha Gupta of Dug house was adjudged best performer with most of the correct answer in her favour. RESOLUTION IN CONGRESS SUPPORTING INDIA'S UNSC BID

Washington, Feb 19 (PTI)  Describing India as a rising global power, a bi-partisan resolution introduced in the US House of Representatives has expressed support for the country's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.           The resolution, introduced by Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Thursday and supported by half-a-dozen other lawmakers, has now been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.                 Appreciating India for being a strong democratic ally, key economic partner and rising global power, the resolution favours its inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.             t encourages President Barack Obama to work with friends and allies of the US in the United Nations to effect India's inclusion on the Security Council.

CBI CHIEF CONTRADICTS SIBAL; WRONG TO SAY 'ZERO LOSS'

New Delhi, Feb 15 (PTI)   CBI Director A P Singh today contradicted Telcom Minister Kapil Sibal on his claim that the 2G spectrum allocation had caused "zero loss" to the national exchequer as he appeared before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).          Singh was quizzed by the members of the Committee on various aspects of the 2G spectrum allocation which  the CBI is investigating .            "As far as he (Singh) has seen the case, to say 'zero loss' is wrong," PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi told a press conference after the meeting.           A member of the Committee said the CBI chief was of the view that it would be "wrong to say that there was zero sum loss in allocation of 2 G spectrum on first-come-first-serve basis.

Nepal has finally got a Prime Minister ending the six-month long status quo as the Legislature Parliament elected UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal to the top executive post Thursday evening. Khanal got elected as the 34th Prime Minister of Nepal through a parliament voting as the largest party in the parliament,the Unified CPN (Maoist) withdrew in his support. Khanal received 368 votes, Paudel received 122 votes, while Gachchhadar received 67 votes. In addition to his party UML and his largest supporter Unified CPN (Maoist), Rastriya Janamorcha, CPN (ML), CPN (ML-Samajwadi), Nepa Rastriya Party, Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), Rastriya Janmukti Party, Nepali Janata Dal and Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manch had also supported Khanal.
